Gunborg Hallgren turns 99
I think you get a few extra years from living in Solkusten’s pleasant climate. That’s what Gunborg Hallgren says, who turns 99 on Tuesday.
Svenska Magasinet has been in contact with the daughters Anita and Britt, who have holiday homes in Elviria and Calahonda, and asked if we can draw attention to Gunborg, which is on its way to 100 years.
– My sister and I appreciate that you write about mother. She deserves all the attention, writes Anita, who sends a picture of all three from a previous occasion.
On Tuesday, they celebrate Gunborg’s 99th birthday at Casa Klein in Vélez Málaga.
100-year-olds
Since Svenska Magasinet started in October 1990, the magazine has interviewed a number of Swedes who have reached the age of 100 or thereabouts. All have commented on the advanced age by saying that they believe they gained a few extra years in their lives thanks to moving to Spain.
Gunborg’s husband Sune Hallgren was 97 years old. Sune died on May 16, 2021 in Vélez Málaga.
Olga Thorén , who came to Spain in 1953, was 103 years old. She was living in Benalmádena recently. Svend Christensen in Fuengirola and Margit Stenberg (102) in Vélez Málaga got to experience the 100th anniversary.
Eugenie Trullemans Rydeberg in Fuengirola and who was married to Georg Rydeberg until 1979 was 102 years old. Margaretha Holmdahl had time to turn 100 years old. Margaretha and her husband Stellan who have a street (Calle Holmdahl) named after them in Calahonda in Mijas Costa. Stella was 95 years old. Monika Mollbäck and Amalia Söderhjelm (96) also reached old age.
Calahonda 1989
Gunborg Hallgren moved to Solkusten in February 1989. Together with Sunne, they moved into the newly built terraced house in La Cornisa in Calahonda. They lived there until autumn 2020 when the Hallgren couple moved to Casa Klein in Vélez Málaga.
Svenska Magasinet drew attention when Gunborg and Sune celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary.
– We have received so much attention here at Casa Klein. They have taken nice photos of us, they are greeting cards, chocolate boxes and celebrations, Gunborg Hallgren said at the time.
– Now I’m staying here. I am so well looked after by friendly staff who stand up when I can’t take it myself. So I have a beautiful garden to walk in, said Gunborg last Saturday when Svenska Magasinet visited on Saturday.
